PROGRAM OVERVIEW
El Nido, Palawan, is one of the Philippines' most iconic destinations, renowned for its crystal-clear lagoons, pristine white-sand beaches, and incredible marine life. While tourism continues to flourish, many children in the nearby rural community of Nacpan Village have limited access to quality English education, despite English skills becoming increasingly valuable for future opportunities.
This program supports children aged 6 to 12 from local primary and secondary schools by helping them build confidence in their English communication skills.
Through fun, interactive lessons and creative activities, you'll help inspire a love of learning while making English enjoyable and accessible. By joining this program, you'll contribute to the children's education, immerse yourself in the local culture, and make a lasting impact in one of the Philippines' most beautiful destinations.
What Will I Actually Be Doing?
- Teach English, maths, and science through fun, interactive, and engaging lessons.
- Plan and deliver lessons aligned with the school curriculum.
- Organize and facilitate engaging learning activities such as songs, dances, and sports.
- Collaborate with local teachers to organize lessons and assessments.
Is This Ethical and Legitimate?
This program works directly with the community and supports local teachers by providing additional support to the children.
The program focuses on sustainable cultural exchange, helping children gain practical language skills while allowing volunteers to learn about local culture and education in Indonesia.
If you would like explore more of Indonesia or Asia you can book onto one of our group tours here.
THE ITINERARY
Monday – Welcome & Orientation
Meet your team and settle into your new surroundings with a comprehensive welcome orientation. We'll introduce you to the program, go over the house rules, outline what to expect during your stay, and provide important health and safety information. You'll also learn about Filipino culture, including local customs, etiquette, and dress codes, before taking part in a fun introductory Filipino language lesson. To finish the day, enjoy a guided tour of the town centre and surrounding area, helping you become familiar with your new home and the local community.
Tuesday–Friday – Teaching Program
Each morning begins with breakfast before heading to the local school, where you'll lead fun and interactive English lessons for the children. Using games, songs, and engaging activities, you'll help develop their language and communication skills in a supportive and enjoyable learning environment.
In the afternoon, you'll work alongside local teachers, assisting with classroom activities and helping to create a safe, positive, and engaging atmosphere for the students. You'll also spend time preparing lesson materials and planning activities for the following day to ensure each session is fun, organised, and effective.
In the evening, you'll have time to relax, reflect on the day's experiences, and get ready for another rewarding day of teaching.
