How much do volunteer programs abroad cost?

ULTIMATE volunteer programs start from $1,098. Most programs run for 14 days and can be extended if you want longer. Each program page lists exactly what’s covered.

Are ULTIMATE’s animal volunteer programs ethical?

Yes — our animal programs are sanctuary-based, and there is no riding. On the elephant conservation program in Thailand and the turtle conservation program in Bali you work alongside the people caring for the animals rather than interacting with them as entertainment. If an experience isn’t right for the animals, it isn’t on our programs.

Do I need qualifications or experience to volunteer?

No. You don’t need teaching qualifications or previous experience to join any ULTIMATE volunteer program, including the teaching placements in Vietnam, the Philippines and Kandy. You’ll be supported in-country and working as part of a team.

How long are the volunteer programs?

Most volunteer programs run for 14 days. You can customise them to run longer if you want a deeper stay — get in touch and we’ll build it around the time you have.

What volunteer programs does ULTIMATE offer?

Six programs across Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka: turtle conservation in Bali, elephant conservation in Thailand, teaching in Vietnam, teaching in the Philippines, education and teaching in Kandy, Sri Lanka, and community construction in Cambodia.

Can I combine volunteering with a tour?

Yes, and it’s one of our most popular combinations, especially in Southeast Asia. Plenty of travellers pair a two-week volunteer placement with a group tour — you get the feeling of contributing something alongside the travel itself, which is a great balance. Contact us and we’ll put the two together for you.

Who can join a volunteer program?

Volunteer programs are traditionally for travellers aged 18 to 35, but we accept a wider range of ages — get in touch if you fall outside that and we’ll talk it through. Most people join solo.
