What kinds of Australia tours does ULTIMATE run?
ULTIMATE runs guided and self-guided trips across Australia’s East Coast, the Red Centre, the Top End, the West Coast and Tasmania, for travellers aged 18 to 35. East Coast trips run from 21 to 50 days between Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Cairns. Every trip includes point-to-point transport between stops and hostel accommodation, in a range of styles and budgets.
How much does an Australia tour cost?
Australia trips start from $1,899. Price depends on trip length and how many stops and activities are included — a three-week trip and a seven-week trip are very different propositions. A $300 deposit holds your place, with the balance due 50 days before travel.
What’s the difference between a fully guided tour and a self-guided package?
A fully guided tour travels with a tour leader and a group the whole way — the most popular choice, because you know from the day you book you’ll be travelling with others. A self-guided package has the same transport and accommodation pre-booked for you, but you travel independently between stops at your own pace. Either way, nothing is left for you to organise.
Self-guided doesn’t mean always alone. Any experience included in a self-guided package — K’gari, the Whitsundays, day trips — runs as a fully guided two or three day component with a guide and a group.
Which part of Australia should I visit?
The East Coast is where most first-time travellers go — Sydney up to Cairns takes in the beaches, the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef. The Red Centre and Top End are the outback trips, built around Uluru, Kakadu and Darwin. The West Coast and Tasmania suit people who’ve already done the East Coast or want somewhere quieter.

Do I need a visa to travel Australia?
Most travellers doing a long trip in Australia come on a Working Holiday Visa, which lets you travel and work here for up to a year. Our Australian Working Holiday Visa guide covers eligibility, the 417 and 462 subclasses, and how to apply. Shorter holidays may only need a visitor visa — check the requirements for your nationality before you book.
How far in advance should I book?
People book up to 12 months ahead, holding their place with a deposit, and the balance generally isn’t due until 50 days before travel. Booking early costs nothing beyond the deposit and gives the best pick of dates, accommodation and activities. In peak season, December to February, two to three months ahead is the practical minimum.
What age are ULTIMATE Australia tours for?
Trips are designed for travellers aged 18 to 35. Groups are a mix of solo travellers, pairs and friends from around the world, and most people book solo — you won’t be the only one.
