ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE
Discover the wild beauty of Australia’s Top End on this 4-day small group adventure through Kakadu, Katherine and Litchfield National Parks. Operated by one of our trusted local partners, this experience is a relaxed but immersive journey through some of the Northern Territory’s most iconic landscapes. From crocodile-filled wetlands and ancient Aboriginal rock art sites to crystal-clear swimming holes and dramatic gorges, this trip is all about connecting with nature, culture and the remote beauty of the Australian outback.

Explore the remarkable rock art galleries of Ubirr and take in sweeping views across Arnhem Land and the Nardab floodplains. Cool off in stunning natural swimming spots including Maguk, Moline Rockhole, Edith Falls and the waterfalls and plunge pools of Litchfield National Park. You’ll also experience the towering beauty of Katherine Gorge on a guided cruise through Nitmiluk National Park. With comfortable permanent eco tents, shared meals and a relaxed pace, this is the perfect way to experience the Top End without needing to rough it too hard.
Please note this is a partner-operated tour run by one of our trusted local operators. While it is booked through ULTIMATE, operational details, guiding style and accommodation set-up may differ slightly from an ULTIMATE-operated group trip.
ABOUT YOU
This trip is ideal for travellers who want to experience the best of the Northern Territory in a short amount of time, without taking on anything too extreme. It suits adventurous travellers who enjoy the outdoors, wildlife, swimming and cultural experiences, but prefer a more relaxed pace than some of Australia’s more demanding overland tours. A moderate level of fitness is still required, as there are uneven surfaces, steps, rocky areas and short walks involved throughout the journey.
You may be travelling solo, with a friend, or as part of a bigger Australia trip, and this experience is perfect for those wanting to explore Kakadu, Katherine and Litchfield with the ease of a guided itinerary. This tour is not suitable for children aged 7 years and under, and it is important that travellers are comfortable visiting remote areas where facilities and medical access can be limited. If you are after nature, wildlife, cultural insight and unforgettable scenery rather than luxury hotels or nightlife, this trip will be a great fit.
TRAVEL STYLE
This is a participatory small group adventure with a comfortable camping set-up. You’ll stay in permanent eco tents with shared facilities, giving you an outback experience while still enjoying a solid level of comfort. Guests are expected to join in with simple group tasks such as helping prepare meals and cleaning up afterwards. These shared tasks are all part of the journey and help bring the group together.
Transport is by all-terrain vehicle, built for Top End conditions and ideal for reaching some of the region’s most spectacular natural attractions. The tour begins with pick-up from your Darwin accommodation at approximately 6:30am on day 1 and returns to Darwin at around 4:00pm on day 4. As this tour travels through remote national park regions, itineraries may occasionally change without notice due to weather, road conditions, mechanical issues or cultural commitments from Traditional Owners. If you have any medical conditions or take medication, please provide full details in advance, as medical facilities in these regions are limited and can be difficult to access.
GROUP VIBE
The group vibe on this trip is relaxed, social and nature-focused. Groups are small, with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 16 travellers, so it is easy to get to know the people around you and enjoy a more personal experience with your guide. Many travellers join solo, making this a great option if you want the reassurance of group travel while still having plenty of space to enjoy the scenery at your own pace.
Expect early starts, big adventure days, shared meals and plenty of memorable moments out in nature. One moment you might be spotting crocodiles and birdlife on a wetlands cruise, and the next you’ll be floating in a clear waterhole or taking in ancient landscapes that feel untouched by time. This is less about partying and more about shared adventure, incredible scenery and the kind of travel experience that creates genuine connections.
