At ULTIMATE, Fully Guided Group Tours are what we specialise in — they make up the majority of our East Coast product range and are by far our most popular way to travel the Sydney-to-Cairns route. For travellers who want more independence, we also offer Self-Guided Packages, giving you the choice to pick the travel style that fits you best.

Fully Guided Group Tours put a dedicated Group Leader with you from departure to arrival, travelling alongside a consistent group of fellow adventurers and handling the logistics so you don’t have to. This is where ULTIMATE’s expertise really shows — our most popular option, the East Coast Explorer, comes in 5, 6, or 7-week itineraries that all link together, so travellers on any of the three depart Sydney at the same time and share the same 5-week core journey with a knowledgeable leader throughout.

Self-Guided Packages are for those who wish to travel solo, with the freedom to explore at your own pace — but you’re never entirely on your own. Certain inclusions along the way, typically around 20% of the experience, come with semi-guided support, and because Self-Guided travellers follow the same East Coast route as our Guided groups, you’ll often cross paths with ULTIMATE tour groups and Group Leaders at key stops along your journey. It’s a solo-friendly way to get the backup and local know-how of our guided network, with the freedom to explore everywhere else.
